Ellie Mae, Reece and Lexi

I have been doing Therapy Work for 25 years, have been a registered Delta Society Pet Partners team since 2000 and a Delta Society Licensed Instructor; Evaluator since 2004, the same year I founded Therapy Pets of Greater Cincinnati. I am also the group's Speaker and Representative to the Community. We started in 2004 with a handful of Pet Partners and have grown to over 200 members since then. In addition, I started the Therapy Dog Program at Shriners Hospitals for Children – Cincinnati, and I am the head of the Ronald McDonald House Program. Blake (my chocolate Lab) and I are also certified with the American Red Cross disaster Relief Team in Cincinnati. We are an active therapy team currently visiting Oncology, Neurology, Pediatrics and Burn units in all the local hospitals. Blake is a great distraction when patients are undergoing procedures. Our goals are a smile, a word, a laugh, a deep breath, a hand reaching, a trust, a step forward, a sense of self-worth, a walk outside, a small change that makes a big difference.

Judi with Pet Partner Bella

Bella and I have been members of Therapy Pets of Greater Cincinnati since April 2009! Bella, my fawn pug, and I visit local hospitals, nursing homes, and children's reading programs at the library and book store and we love doing special events.

Although I sometimes work long hours, I find that pet therapy is the perfect outlet to give back to my community and I feel that I get back as much as I give. Further, Bella is just the perfect dog for pet therapy work. She truly enjoys it and seeks out everyone, whether they be very young or elderly, healthy or sick. I notice that when we go to waiting rooms to spend time with visitors waiting to see their loved ones in the hospital, Bella takes her time to visit each and every person; she trots over to them, turns and sits and allows them to love on her for as long as they need it! In 2009, Bella was awarded Hamilton County’s Favorite Companion by Cincinnati Bell and she was awarded the Therapy Dog of the Year award from the Pug Dog Club of America for 2010

Connie with Pet Partner Suzie

Connie Busemeyer has been a part of the organization for over three years... as a Registered Nurse and home care provider Connie has seen how beneficial animals are to seniors.

Lowden, Connie's first Pet Partner, was loved by all and unfortunately passed in November, 2009. He was a frequent visitor to St. Charles Adult Care Center as well as special events throughout Cincinnati.

Suzie, Connie's new Pet Partner, found a household of brothers rather challenging and moved south. She had experienced life as a show dog but found therapy work much more to her liking having visited Shriner and Bethesda Hospitals. Suzie has now adapted well to her Edgewood home and being "Queen of the Household". Suzie is visiting St. Charles and hoping to help her partner expand the Northern Kentucky contacts for Therapy Pets of Greater Cincinnati as well as teach her new mom some agility... Suzie and Connie are extremely thankful to her Pet Partner friends for connecting them.

My Siberian Husky, Isabella, and I have been Pet Partners since December, 2009. Together we participate in various TPGC functions and weekly visits with special needs children and adults. Being a member of TPGC has been a most rewarding experience.

Denny with Pet Partner Jackson

Jackson and I have been Pet Partners for approximately five years. We visit McKinley Place at Twin Lakes, Senior Link and Western Row Elementary School.  I'm not sure who gets the most out of our visits: the residents and students, Jackson or me.  It is extremely rewarding to bring joy to the faces of nursing home residents and smiles to the faces of 2nd and 3rd grade readers. I am so proud to be a member of Therapy Pets of Greater Cincinnati and look forward to the day when Jackson and I can visit other facilities to "spread the joy."
